Bahrain - Public may walk into their designated residential health centres to receive the coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine from tomorrow.

The Health Ministry yesterday announced that individuals will not have to register online on the Health Ministry’s website, as announced earlier.

Bahrain last week launched its free vaccination drive for citizens and residents following the approval of Sinopharm and Pfizer/BioNTech for emergency use earlier this month.

“People wishing to receive the Covid-19 vaccine can head directly to their designated residential health centres, from December 25,” said the Health Ministry in a statement.

“There is no need for them to register online to book an appointment in advance.

“The vaccination, administered daily from 8am to 6pm, is free of charge to all citizens and residents aged 18 and above.”

The ministry has also announced on its website, healthalert.gov.bh, that those who have previously registered online will be contacted with their appointment details for vaccination on December 24.

More than 35,000 people have taken the vaccination according to latest government figures.

The campaign is likely to cover around 679,000 expatriates and 712,000 Bahrainis aged over 18 in up to 300 days, as reported earlier by our sister publication Akhbar Al Khaleej.

The Health Ministry also highlighted the “increasing number of citizens and residents” at its approved 27 health centres, to take the vaccine.

The centres, according to the Supreme Council for Health chairman Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, can administer the vaccine to 5,000 individuals per day, with plans to expand it to reach 10,000.

The country has so far recorded 90,634 covid-19 cases including 88,666 recoveries and 350 related fatalities.
