GCC undersecretaries of health ministries held a virtual meeting on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in particular the new Omicron variant and efforts to combat it.

H E Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health, participated in the meeting which was attended by several senior officials.
The meeting reviewed the global situation and measures adopted by the Gulf states. While cases of the new variant have been registered in the GCC, none were admitted to intensive care units nor any related deaths reported to date.

No case of the new variant has been registered in the sultanate.

Participants agreed on the significance of a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine to stay protected against the virus and to implement preventive and precautionary measures, including wearing masks, avoiding gatherings and observing hand hygiene.
