Major shutdowns are being implemented in Dubai to control the spread of coronavirus.

In line with ongoing efforts to safeguard public health, Dubai Economy and Dubai Municipality has taken measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the emirate.

Dubai Economy has directed all cinemas, theme parks, amusement games & electronic game centres, bodybuilding & fitness gyms and spring camps licensed in Dubai to halt all their activities and services until end of March 2020, Dubai Media Office (DMO) tweeted.

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced the temporary closure of museums, historical sites and public libraries in Dubai with immediate effect from today.

Dubai Economy has also directed all establishments licensed to operate massage parlours and spas to suspend these activities with immediate effect from today till the end of March. Also, Dubai Municipality has announced the closure of public parks and entertainment destinations starting today (March 15, 2020) until further notice.

Meanwhile, Global Village has also announced the early closure of its 2019-2020 season with immediate effect.

Earlier, the DMO had announced on its Twitter account that all events in Dubai should be suspended from Sunday, March 15, [until] the end of the month.

In line with ongoing measures to safeguard public health, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing has directed that all events in Dubai should be suspended from Sunday, March 15 till the end of the month, the tweet said.

DXB Entertainments, the company behind Dubai Parks and Resorts announced that it is suspending operations until March 31 or at such time the situation will be re-evaluated. Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, Legoland Waterpark Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai would be closed to ensure the health and safety of guests and employees.

The UAE will suspend visa issuance starting March 17, as part of its measures to contain the deadly coronavirus outbreak. The decision does not apply to those who already have their visas issued prior to the aforementioned date.

The Federal Authority for Identity And Citizenship (ICA) said: "The move comes as part of the precautionary measures taken by the UAE in response to the World Health Organisation's declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, a development which reflects the high risks now associated with travel under the current circumstances."

The UAE has also temporarily suspended all flights to and from Lebanon, Turkey, Syria and Iraq as of March 17, until further notice.

Night clubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been shut down with immediate effect until the end of March to restrict further cases of the new coronavirus.

The UAE has so far announced 86 cases of coronavirus. There have been 17 confirmed recoveries, making the current number of active cases 68. The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined the coronavirus outbreak to be a worldwide “pandemic”.
