The Sharjah Education Council (SEC) will not allow government nurseries to register new students for this year.

Private nurseries won't be allowed to open until it is ensured that all measures have been put in place to safeguard the health of the children, a top official at the SEC pointed out.

The official said receiving children in nurseries will depend on regular monitoring of the situation and following up on periodic reports about the Covid-19 pandemic.

The official added that a special team has been formed to visit and check on the nurseries and kindergartens after reopening protocols and guidelines were issued.

"Governmental nurseries have also been equipped according to the specifications and requirements of the guidelines. The operational plans for each nursery have been included separately in the 'Tamam' programme," he added.

The inspection team is working to gauge the extent of readiness of government nurseries for their reopening. After the reopening of the nurseries, the team will visit the facilities to follow up on the progress about maintaining a healthy environment for the little ones.

Maryam Jaber Al Shamsi, director of the Early Childhood Department, said that 40 per cent of parents are willing to send their children to government nurseries in Sharjah. Therefore, the spaces and classes have been rearranged and the staff redistributed for different groups of kids. "We are waiting for the right time to start receiving the kids. However, the government nurseries won't be allowed to register new students for now," she underlined.
