AMMAN - The reopening of sectors has a positive impact on the Kingdom’s restaurant sector, food sector representative at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Raed Hamadah said on Wednesday.

Foot traffic at the Kingdom’s 15,000 non-tourist restaurants increased by 70% since mid-2021 compared with the same period of 2019, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted Hamadah as saying.

The government commenced the implementation of a series of plans related to the reopening of sectors and easing of the restrictions in mid-2021. Foot traffic at the Kingdom’s 1,000 tourist restaurants has increased by 40 to 50% since the beginning of September, Hamadah added.

Highlighting the need for supporting local investors, Hamadah called for implementing uniform sales tax for tourist and non-tourist restaurants, to become 8% instead of 16%. He also called for decreasing the service allowance from 10 to 5%.
