MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman said on Tuesday it followed up the current political situation between Saudi Arabia and Canada, rejecting interference in countries' internal affairs.

"The Sultanate has followed up the current political stance between the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Canada," the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement carried by Oman's official news agency.

"While the Sultanate reaffirms its permanent stance about non-interference in the internal affairs of the other states, it hopes that the situation between the two countries will be settled," it added.

Saudi Arabia had suspended diplomatic ties and new trade dealings with Canada in response to Canada's call for the release of whom it called "women's rights activists" in the kingdom.

It also declared the Canadian ambassador in Riyadh "persona non grata", asking him to leave the kingdom within 24 hours. (end) ahr.mt
