Arab Finance: The Suez Canal has recorded its highest-ever daily traffic rate on March 13th as 107 ships carrying a net tonnage of 6.3 million tons have passed through the canal in both directions, the Suez Canal Authority’s (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie announced.

Some 56 ships have passed through the canal from the north with a net tonnage of 3.4 million tons, while 51 ships have crossed from the south with a net tonnage of 2.9 million tons, Rabie added.

Rabie said that this huge boom in daily transit rates would not have been possible without the new Suez Canal project, which succeeded in increasing the numerical and absorptive capacity of the canal and raising its readiness to receive the current and future generations of giant vessels.
