Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a meeting Sunday to follow up on the efforts to localize the mobile phone industry in Egypt.

The meeting was held in the presence of Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Al-Shahat Al-Ghattouri, Head of the Customs Authority, and Sherine El-Gendy, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Strategy and Implementation and Head of the General Budget Sector at the Ministry of Finance, Ahmed Al-Zaher, Acting CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, Hossam Othman, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Technological Innovation, Electronics Industry and Training, and officials of the concerned authorities.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister affirmed the state’s keenness on providing various facilities and incentives that would support and enhance the role of the industrial sector, and develop it, given the importance this sector represents to the Egyptian economy. He pointed out the government’s interest in making more efforts that contributes to deepening and localizing industry in various fields, especially with regard to technological industries, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in this regard.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister shed light on the efforts made within the framework of the localization of the mobile phone industry in Egypt, and the aspects currently under negotiation with one of the major international companies in this field, to establish a factory for this purpose. “Through this cooperation, we aim to take the percentage of the domestic mobile phone industry to 40%,” he said.

Ambassador Nader Saad, the official spokesman for of the Cabinet, stated that during the meeting, a number of proposed facilitations and incentives were reviewed, which would contribute to increasing the volume of investments of international companies working in the field of technological industries and the mobile phone industry in Egypt, and it was agreed to make a legislative amendment to encourage these companies to localize their industry in Egypt.
