National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) said a massive fire broke out at the construction site of its new headquarters in capital Kuwait City on Thursday which was successfully extinguished.

Plumes of black smoke were seen in the sky after the blaze hit the 300-m tall skyscraper located at Kuwait city's Sharq financial district.

The Kuwait Fire Department immediately swung into action and evacuated more than 2,500 workers from the site "in record time without any injuries," said the bank in a twitter message.

The bank's management also thanked the Ministry of Interior, the Emergency Medical Services for their quick response in putting out the fire.
