ROME: The Crown Prince officially inaugurated Bahrain’s Embassy in Rome yesterday.
The inauguration marks a new milestone in Bahrain’s growing relations with Italy, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, said.
He underlined the kingdom’s determination to work closely with its Italian partners to broaden ties at all levels.
The Crown Prince identified the embassy as a new platform for collaboration which will promote a stronger trading partnership between the two countries.
He also unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the embassy.
The Crown Prince, who is on an official visit, held wide-ranging talks with senior Italian officials.
He met Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome and exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
Bilateral ties have continued to move from strength to strength under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, as evidenced by high-level exchanges and the inauguration of the embassy, he said.
A number of senior officials from the Crown Prince’s official delegation attended the meeting.
During his packed schedule, the Crown Prince also met His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.
The Crown Prince met Vatican Secretary of State His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin and highlighted that the kingdom’s diverse society has embraced all religions and faiths, and is a reflection of the King’s far-reaching vision of peace and harmony.
He held talks with ambassadors of Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and stressed that Bahrain will continue to work with allies and international partners to find new opportunities and to promote co-operation.
An agreement to promote tourism links between the two countries was signed on the sidelines of the Crown Prince’s visit.
Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani, who is also Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority chairman signed the agreement with Italian Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism Under-Secretary Lorenza Bonaccorsi.
The minister said the agreement will provide new job opportunities that support economic growth in line with 2030 Bahrain economic vision.
The agreement aims to increase tourism flows by encouraging individual and organised trips, in addition to strengthening partnership in the field of food and agricultural products and various tourism products, including sustainable tourism.
Both countries also committed to intensify training programmes in tourism management.
