ALGIERS- Algeria's annual inflation dropped slightly to 2.5% in August from 2.7% the previous month after a fall in prices for some foodstuffs, official data showed on Tuesday.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index went up 1.1% in August, according to the National Statistics Bureau.

The price of potatoes fell 10.2%, while the prices of poultry and meat rose 6.3% and 6.15% respectively.

Algeria has been trying to reduce spending on imports of food and other goods in a bid to offset deficits caused by a fall in energy earnings.
