Some 138,000 tons of zinc ingots are expected to be produced, once required grounds are created, said managing director of Zinc Mine Development Company.
Mohammad Ebrahim Forouzandeh said that 120,000 tons of zinc ingots were to be produced in the past year (ended March 19), of which 110,000 tons actually materialized, IRNA reported.
He said that some 98,000 tons of zinc ingots were to be produced in the past year but to materialize the objectives set by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameni, the company decided to increase the figure.
He noted that the last year was a golden year for the company, recalling that the collapse of mines in the year to March 2009 inflicted heavy damages to the company.
He said that the company has managed to cope with the problem and draw up a schedule to spike production.
Forouzandeh said that creating grounds to materialize the objective is the main challenge of the company.
In February, a report released by the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry said Iran mined over 143,000 tons of zinc and lead during March 21, 2011-Jan. 20, 2012, showing a 12.7-percent increase compared to the figure for the same period last year.
