SANA’A - The Malaysian Education Road Show was concluded at the Taj Sheba Hotel in Sana’a last Saturday. The Yemeni International Health Center (YIHC) in Yemen hosted the event.

Eight Malaysian private universities participated in the road show: Inti International Group of Colleges, Kolej Univeristi Tun Hussin Onn, Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology, Multimedia University, Olympia College, University Tenaga Nasional, University Putra Malaysia, and University Sana Malaysia.

Marliza Zorakin Malek, senior manager at Exhibition Promotion and Management (EXPAM), told the Yemen Observer that the Malaysia Educational Road Show is the first approach from Malaysia to bring Malaysian private universities and colleges to Yemen.

She added that the main aim of the event was to promote students from Yemen to come to Malaysia rather than go to the United Stated or other Western countries, pointing out that there are more than 500 Yemeni students studying in Malaysia now.

“We have some collaboration programs already existing between private universities and some local Yemeni universities like Sana’a University, Hadhramaut University, and Ibb University,” she said.

She expressed hope that the educational cooperation between Malaysia and Yemen would extend into the future and that this event would become an annual one.

Faris Sahib, one of the organizers of the event, said that the show was a first step towards opening more horizons for educational cooperation between Yemeni and Malaysian universities.

Yemeni postgraduate student Fuad Al-Shahari said that the show gave Yemeni students more information about Malaysian universities and their systems and the specializations that many Yemeni students are interested in enrolling in.

It is worth mentioning that in recent years, Yemeni- Malaysian cooperation has witnessed great progress in different fields, especially in the field of education and scientific research.

The event was opened by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Researches Abdul-Wahab Raweh along with the Malaysian Ambassador to Sana’a and the head of the Malaysian University for Science. It was attended by a number of Yemeni officials.
