March 2006
The private Internet-based telephone company Smart Link Communication (SLC) says it will launch a mobile telephony service over the Internet in Algeria in late March 2006. SLC is establishing a telephony network that will use WiMax technology, a more powerful version of Wi-Fi, which will enable a nationwide coverage.

SLC has already inked an interconnection agreement with Algerie Telecom and is negotiating similar agreements with mobile phone operators, Djezzy, Mobilis and Nedjma to cover the six provinces (Wilayas) of Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Setif, Bejaa and Blida.

With some 350 employees, the company hopes to sign up between 30 and 40 corporate accounts by the end of this year.
