KUWAIT: Utopia, an Italian jewelry brand, was launched and introduced yesterday at 21 Damas branches all over Kuwait. Anna Gaia, Chief Executive Officer of the Utopia brand, was at the event held at Damas Arraya Center along with Mohammad Gazzaz, Damas Regional Manager and Fatina Arda, Damas Public Relations Manager. Gaia spoke to local media about her gorgeous collections and her passion in jewelry. "I am excited in this partnership with Damas in Kuwait," Gaia told Kuwait Times. "We have been together for ten years in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but only now we are making our presence felt within the Kuwaiti market," she said. Gaia noted the approach to her designs in Kuwait will be different to designs in the UAE market. "Kuwait's market is quite sophisticated - buyers are mostly locals, so our approach here is different compared to the UAE market. The UAE is Westernized - they have visitors from all over the world - but here we will be distributing designs based on local tastes. Expatriates too are willing buyers, so we shall be catering to expats too," she said.

Harmonious blend Utopia jewelry collections are the result of renowned Italian creativity, with simple but sophisticated styles - the expression of a harmonious blend of classical and modern that reflects the beauty of the jewelry and the beauty of person wearing it. "We want to give our customers a modern touch of classical style pearl - more contemporary and playful. I combined it with precious stones, gold and diamonds. We even used multicolor sapphires, rubies, emeralds and tanzanite which is a very intense blue color. People think of pearls as a grandmotherly or boring, but this time they are lively and very colorful. We reinvented and mixed them with colors, so the designs are gorgeous, fashionable and attractive - really a timeless symbol of elegance," Gaia stated. Women usually match jewelry with their attractive dresses. They also match them depending on the occasion, mood or whether the event is at night or daytime. "We have kinds of pearls that will match every occasion. People in this part of the world are interested in yellow gold pearls. These are very attractive, and come from Philippines and Indonesia. We combined them with white pearls from Australia. Diamonds and gold are also included - the result is really amazing, just the way you see it," she said.

Pearl production Pearl products vary depending on the country of origin and the condition of the sea/ocean bed, their temperature and how fine the weather is. "The best pearl and a favorite of Gulf peoples are the yellowish or golden pearls from the Philippines and Indonesia. The white pearls from Australia are also very attractive and usually big. Tahiti and Polynesia produce stunning black pearls. We tried cultivating pearls in the Mediterranean Sea, but the result wasn't good, so we stopped," Gaia revealed. Gaia's company started in Italy by her great-grandfather after the World War 2. The first collection her company produced was called 'Legato' which is a crisscrossing of vine branches in Tuscan countryside. One of the most successful lines her company produced was 'Bolero' inspired by the freshness of jasmine flowers. Gaia's latest collection is called 'Claire De Lune'. Claire De Lune is a poetry dedicated to moon. "Utopia pearls have identity - there is an imprint that is to be found in every jewelry collection. Pearl has a soul and each one is completely different. We want this uniqueness to come alive in our collections," she promised. Her Utopia brand is well-known all over the world with a strong presence in Europe, Middle East, Asia and the Americas.
