Fujairah, 25th Dec. 2013 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) will provide Fujairah Municipality with technical assistance and expertise for Fujairah Plan 2040 under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager of UPC, and Mohammed Saif Al Afkhamn, Director of Fujairah Municipality.

Inked at Fujairah Emiri Court in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the MoU for joint technical cooperation comes within the context of keenness of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and instructions of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of UPC, for strengthening cooperation and supporting strategic initiatives and partnerships between emirates for advancing progress in the country.

Under the MoU, UPC will assist the Fujairah Municipality to design and prepare the Fujairah Plan 2040and review development plans including exchange of information and expertise, setting general plans and policies as well as regulations and systems for supervision and control which will guide and regulate urban development in the emirate of Fujairah. Technical teams will also work together to envisage urban framework structure for Fujairah which will envisage a set of policies and resolutions for urbandevelopment like manuals and regulations regarding urban roads, services, safety and security, public places, mosques land use.

''We at UPC are fully ready to provide all support needed to render the Fujairah Master Plan 2040 a success and to share expertise and information with Fujairah Municipality and other government entities. The success of this plan is considered a success to our State. It's a great pleasurefor the UPC to contribute to delivering this initiative which serves the emirate of Fujairah,'' Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager of UPC, said.

The MoU will also see UPC offer technical support to Fujairah Municipality to implementthe flagship Estidama initiative, developed and promoted by the UPC as a key element for achieving goals of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The initiative will guide Fujairah Municipality to deliver its targets of sustainable development through 2040, in light of its rapid economic growth and through buildingan effective, environmental-friendly infrastructure while preserving the Fujairah's unique identity.

Fujairah will take advantage of the UPC pioneering experiment to establish integrated, sustainable communities.

Mohammed Saif Al Afkhamn, Director of Fujairah Municipality, said that :'' Based on the federal strategic plan under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and in line with instructions given by H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, for benefiting from federal and local experiences and experiments, Fujairah has opted to benefit from the UPC's expertise to draw its Plan 2040.'' ''We are confident that cooperation and expertise sharing will contribute to bolstering Abu Dhabi-Fujairah partnership in a way that realies aspirations of our wise leadership for inter-emirate progress and integration,'' he stressed.
