Dr. Fikri also indicated that the ministry established Rashid Diabetes and Research Center as a model of societal and international partnership project to increase the society?s awareness of the dangers of diabetes. During the past two years, the center provided checkups for 2000 cases and gave 36775 medical consultations. It also succeeded in achieving controllable rates of diabetes for 31% of the patients. The center also conducted 72 bariatric surgeries for 20 diabetics and obtained the quality assurance award in the UAE ranking 47th place and fifth worldwide. "The international conference healthy lifestyle and non-communicable diseases in the Arab countries hosted in Riyadh seeks for activating the declarations of the UN General Assembly to protect the Eastern Mediterranean countries from non-communicable diseases ensuring the participation of all member states in this declaration", he concluded. The conference includes high profile delegations from the United Nations, Arab League, FIFA, academics and representatives of civil societies to discuss the latest techniques and methods of fighting non-communicable diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Countries.
