A multi-million dollar monorail running along Dubai's Palm Jumeirah has carried its first passengers.
The $381million project officially opened yesterday and is running between Gateway Towers station at the base of the Palm to the Atlantis Aquaventure stop at the tip.
The four driverless trains can carry up to 2,400 people per hour and the capacity will eventually increase to 9,000.
The monorail will eventually be linked with the Dubai Metro system via the Al Sufouh tramline when it opens towards the end of this year. It was due to open last month, but was delayed while facilities linked to the monorail were completed.
