The number of Indian films being shot here and the recent Zee Cine awards prove that the UAE has become a favourite new destination for Bollywood producers.
The scenic locations and infrastructure in the UAE are the major attractions for us, said one of the producers.
Four Indian movies are currently in production in the UAE. They are being shot in the emirates at various locations, including Sheikh Zayed Road and the Dubai Creek Park, apart from various locations on the east coast and elsewhere in the northern emirates.
Yesterday morning, motorists on the busy Al Ittihad Road saw a film unit on location on the Sharjah-Dubai stretch. Curious drivers slowed down to get a glimpse of their favourite Bollywood stars in action.
The film was Rehguzar, being shot with actor Jimmy Shergill.
Tum Sa Nahin Dekha was also being shot at the Creek Park, with Irfan Hashmi and Jia in the lead roles.
A third film was earlier being shot in Fujairah, and a fourth opposite the Dubai Trade Centre complex.
Promod Dave, an Indian who describes himself as a die-hard Bollywood fan, said: "I was irritated to find that traffic was just crawling along when I approach the Trade Centre, but when I realised an Indian film shoot was taking place I didn't mind. In fact, I actually forgot about an appointment that I had."
Khalid Abdullah Ahmed, a UAE national, was also driving on the same road and was intrigued by the film shoot.
He said: "When I found the traffic moving slowly I wondered as to why motorists seemed in no hurry to drive. Usually in the morning there is this mad rush on the road. When I learnt that the traffic was due to an Indian film shoot, I wanted to get a glimpse of what was happening."
Maninder Singh, an Indian, said: "It's nice to see that Bollywood appreciates Dubai as an exciting place to make films. People can say whatever they want about Indian films, but they are definitely good family entertainment."
