DUBAI: United Arab Emirates Environment and Water Minister Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd issued a decree temporarily banning the importation into the country of all live split-hoof animals, their products and wastes from Lebanon, China, and Taiwan, UAE's national news Agency reported on Wednesday. The ban, which will remain in force until further notice, followed the detection of foot and mouth disease in Lebanon, China and Taiwain. The minister urged the Animal Resource Department and other concerned organizational units of his ministry to coordinate efforts with the related bodies in the country to implement the decree. The decision followed a report from the World Organization for Animal Health which says foot and mouth disease had been detected in the three countries. - WAM
