BEIRUT: A one-week truce has been agreed to between the regime and rebels in the Damascus neighborhood of Qadam, one of the few districts of the capital subjected to near-daily violence.

The rebels, according to opposition sources, have stipulated that the regime halt its demolition of homes in the south Damascus neighborhood. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the agreement took effect Tuesday.

The regime and rebel groups have agreed to a number of truces in areas in and around the capital, although they have periodically floundered.

A deal reportedly reached earlier this week in the Damascus suburb of Adra is supposed to include the release of hundreds of regime detainees in exchange for civilians held by rebels in Adra, although some opposition media outlets maintain the agreement has yet to be implemented.
