Dubai: Dubai Municipality and Zayed University launched the second edition of the UAE National Capacity Development Programme to train UAE nationals and enhance their skills in technical and mechanical fields.

The one-year program-me, which commenced last year, aims at graduating competent automotive electricians and mechanics in cooperation with the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) in the UK.

Dr Sulaiman Al Jasem, vice-president of Zayed University, said the programme comes as a response to the emiratisation needs at Dubai Municipality in the electrical and mechanical fields.

He said the programme will "create new opportunities for young UAE nationals".

Hussain Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality, added that the programme is one of many, which the municipality is offering its employees to boost their performance and develop their skills.

"We hope this programme will attract UAE nationals to become efficient technicians in the fields of motors and heavy vehicles. This collaboration will provide them with highly technical capabilities," he said.

Starting January, the programme will continue for 12 months with a training target of 25 UAE nationals.

At the end of the course, trainees will receive an internationally recognised certificate from IMI.
