ERBIL - More than 40,000 tourists have entered Iraqi Kurdistan Region for the New Year celebrations- an influx up from the previous record by four times.
Nadr Rosti, press secretary at Kurdistan General Tourism Board, told AKnews today that in 2011 more than 10,000 tourists visited Kurdistan during the New Year.
But in the past two days more than 40,000 tourists entered Kurdistan, each carrying with himself at least $200 USD.
The hotels, motels and touristy villages across the three provinces of Kurdistan [Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Duhok] as well as restaurants are swarming with tourists, Hersh Ahmed, head of Kurdistan restaurants and hotels told AKnews.
He added Kurdistan with 365 hotels, 168 motels and 43 tourist villages can host up to 50,000 guests.
