Muscat: Three hospitals to provide intensive care, emergency services and specialist baby care are going to be set up in Khasab, Suwaiq and Salalah.
The three will be built by UK-based firm International Hospitals Group (IHG), with support from UK Export Finance, Britain’s export credit agency that provides funding to companies that undertake overseas projects. In this case, it has supplied IHG with a loan of more than £500 million, which is repayable in the form of a loan.
Commenting on this, Liz Truss, the International Trade Secretary for the UK said, “The size of this contract demonstrates the appetite for the UK’s world leading healthcare expertise across the globe. I am delighted UK Export Finance is supporting the construction of these three hospitals which will not only improve healthcare provision in Oman but will also expand IHG’s overseas business.”
IHG will provide a full design, construction and services package for all three hospitals. Work will also include the construction of emergency power systems, maintenance facilities, roads and other associated infrastructure.
UK Export Finance also helped the International Hospitals Group win these three contracts, with all three hospitals employing specialists from the UK during the construction and design phase, in addition to procuring medical equipment from Britain.
Sectors which UKEF has supported exports include: infrastructure, aerospace, healthcare, telecommunications, transport and industrial development.
