Damascus - The 12th Syrian-Spanish Medical Conference held by Syrian Doctors Union in Spain, in cooperation with Health Ministry, kicks off Monday in Damascus.

 Minister of Health Mahir al-Husami stressed the importance of such conferences and scientific meetings, which allow doctors the opportunity to exchange expertise and knowledge of medical issues challenging the world and health ministries in particular, such as heart and cancer diseases and road accidents known as diseases of modern times.

Minister al-Husami pointed out to the distinguished relations that bind the brotherly countries in different fields including medicine.

Head of the Syrian-Spanish Doctors Union Mudrick Turkmani said that the conference aims at two goals, first to take care of patients and render services free of charge, and second to strengthen the scientific, cultural and social relations between Syria and Spain.

Chairman of the conference Malik Najar reviewed the activities of the Union, which started to hold conferences in 1997, with the purpose to put medicine at citizens' service and to reach to those who are in need, pointing out that a number of surgeries would be made in the Syrian governorates during the conference, in addition to holding scientific courses and symposiums.

Dean of neurosurgery department at Zaragoza University of Spain hailed the strong and deep fraternal relationship that binds the Syrian and Spanish doctors over many years.

/With the participation of 40 physicians and specialists from both Syria and Spain, the conference will go on with its activities in Aleppo, Homs and Idleb.

The conference opening ceremony was attended by Information Minister Mohsin Bilal, the conference's honorary chairman.
