The local clergy has been urged to take advantage of the abundant computer software and the Internet that deal with Islam.
The call was made by the Fujairah Islamic Call and Guidance Centre to help clergymen be more effective and to familiarise themselves with the latest technology.
A source from the centre said: "All Islamic preachers and Islamic researchers should try to benefit from the many computer software programmes available to serve the religion by getting more useful information and spreading Islamic teachings all over the world."
He said there are several computer programmes to help people learn more about the Holy Quran, recitation and memorisation, Hadith Sharif, the history of Islam and other matters regarding Islam and its principles.
"Interested people could learn through the computer the correct pronunciation, including 'Tajweed', and improve their reading skills. One can also use computer programmes to help in understanding the Holy Quran through the many interpretations by famous religious figures in the Islamic world," added the source.
On the Internet, he said, one can ask and get answers on matters related to religion, such as the rules of marriage, divorce, inheritance and raising children.
He added that an Internet surfer could join one of the chat rooms to discuss Islam and its principles and learn more about ambiguous matters, especially those related to dealing with money.
"There are Websites where the surfer can talk about Islam with people from the West, and try to give a clearer image about the religion and its principles that focus on love, forgiveness and peace, which has been badly damaged there."
Also available are computer programmes that teach children to recite and memorise the Holy Quran using interesting techniques. Children can also learn more about famous Islamic wars and other aspescts of history, he added.
