DAMASCUS -- The Federation of Syrian Chamber of Commerce and the Portugese Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a commercial, scientific and technological cooperation agreement to support the companies and institutions in both countries, Al-Thawra local daily reported on Thursday.

Chairman of Portugal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jose Antonio Barros expressed his country's desire of enhancing the economic ties and increasing the industrial and touristic cooperation with Damascus.
He stressed the importance of benefiting from the geographical locations of both countries that would contribute to the movement of goods into the neighboring countries.

The Portuguese businessmen are seeking to establish partnership with their Syrian counterparts, given the positive changes that the Syrian economy witnessed in recent years and Damascus's constant pursuit of development of its relations with other countries.

The Chairman of the Federation of Syrian Chamber of Commerce Ghassan Al-Qalla on his part said that the agreement was the first of its kind in the economic field between Portugal and Syria, and was s good start for further cooperation in other domains.
