Bushehr - Managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) Ali Akbar Shabanpour said that the annual exploitation from South Pars gas field will be equal to Qatar this year.

The South Pars field is a natural gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf. It is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the field holds an estimated 1,800 trillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic metres) of in-situ natural gas and some 50 billion barrels (7.9 billion cubic metres) of natural gas condensates.

POGC public relations quoted Shabanpour as saying that Qatar started exploitation from South Pars field in 1990 while Iran started in 2002.

He added that the total amount of Qatar's production in South Pars gas field is 1.616 billion cubic meters and Iran has exploited 904 million cubic meters from South Pars gas field so far.

Shabanpour said that Iran's exploitation from South Pars has been 55% of Qatar's.

He noted that Qatar's annual production was 177 billion cubic meters last year.

Shabanpour reiterated that Iran's gas production from South Pars was about 132bcm last year reaching 75% of Qatar's production as the reservoir's partner.

He said that Iran and Qatar were equal in exploiting gas in 2005-2006.
