MUSCAT -- Shaza Hotels, the contemporary Eastern hotel brand partnered with Kempinski, yesterday unveiled plans for Shaza Salalah -- a luxury beach resort in Salalah.

The development was launched at a signing ceremony by Shaza Hotel's CEO Simon Coombs and Taameer Investment's CEO Suleiman al Harthy, with the attendance of the Chairman of the Golden Group of Companies, Shaikh Salim al Ghazali, at the Arabian Travel Market.

Shaza Salalah has been master-planned as a one of its kind luxury beach resort, bringing into development features centred on privacy, the natural landscape of Salalah, and the architectural heritage of the coastal city of Oman.

The resort is designed to cater for families, honeymooners, and the luxury traveler who seeks a getaway destination in pristine white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, breathtaking mountains, underwater hot springs, and the annual monsoon rains known as the Khareef. Salalah, which is also known as the 'perfume capital of Arabia' is renowned for its historic frankincense trade and distinct Omani hospitality.

Located on the beach and adjacent to a protected mangrove habitat, Shaza Salalah will feature a Presidential Villa, 80 luxury villas with private pools, 80 furnished hotel apartments, and 130 hotel rooms facing the Indian Ocean, many of which have their own private 'sky pool'.

The property will also unveil the largest luxury ballroom in Salalah, as well as retail outlets and two specialty restaurants. A resort of this standard is a first for Salalah and is expected to enhance the tourism landscape of Oman's second largest city. Construction will begin in Q4 of 2012 and the resort is expected to open in 2016.

Shaza Hotel's CEO, Simon Coombs said: "We are proud to announce the signing of Shaza Salalah and bring Shaza's vision to the Sultanate of Oman, especially to Salalah. Shaza Salalah will be a resort that is married with nature and will be a window for the world to experience the best of Salalah -- which is one of its kind in the entire Arabian Peninsula. We are also very proud to have found the right partners for this luxury resort development. We believe Taameer Investment has the vision and the development experience to see this resort to fruition and bring the world to Salalah."

Shaza Salalah is a development by Taameer Investment, which is one of Oman's leading investment companies with interests in real estate, industrial, financial and service sectors.

Suleiman al Harthy said, "We are delighted to bring the bespoke Shaza experience to the Sultanate of Oman and especially to Salalah. Salalah has so far been Oman's best kept secret on the worldwide tourism map and I firmly believe Shaza Salalah will enhance the luxury travel experience not only in Salalah but the entire Sultanate of Oman by setting a new benchmark. Ultimately, our goal is to invite the world to experience the legendary Omani hospitality, and the natural beauty that Salalah is gifted with. Shaza Salalah is the first step forward in that vision."

Shaza Salalah is the first beach resort development to be announced by Shaza Hotels following hotels already in operation in Medina and Sarajevo while developments in Marrakesh and Karbala are in construction.

Since its launch, the Shaza Hotels brand has shown considerable interest from investors and developers for its unique concept, and was voted as the Middle East's Leading New Hotel Concept at the World Travel Awards Middle East gala ceremony on April 30.
