ShawCor Awarded $60Mn Contract To Provide Coating For Khurais Pipeline
Canada’s ShawCor announced on 18 July that its joint venture affiliate Arabian Pipecoating Company (APCO) had been awarded a SR225mn ($60mn) contract to provide anti-corrosion and internal flow efficiency coatings and double jointing for the Saudi Aramco Khurais pipeline project. The pipe will be coated with Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) Powder and a FBE internal anticorrosion coating at the APCO pipe coating facility at al-Jubail. Over 2,200km of pipe will be used for crude oil production and to carry salt water from the Gulf to the Khurais field where it will be used to provide enhanced oil recovery. Saudi Aramco’s planned Khurais crude increment project will bring into production 1.2mn b/d of Arabian Light crude and 4.5mn b/d of treated seawater for reservoir injection. The project covers three oil fields (Khurais, Abu Jifan and Mazali) and is due to be completed by June 2009 (MEES, 6 March).
