Seoul, 31st May 2013 (WAM) ? Sharjah Media Centre, the media and communications arm of the Government of Sharjah, visited Korean Broadcasting System?s Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, during its participation as part of the Sharjah Delegation at the UAE-Korea Economic Partnership Forum 2013 organized for the third time in Seoul.
Present at the meeting with Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman Sharjah Media Centre, and Osama Samra, Director Sharjah Media Centre, were strategic executives of KBS such as Lee Jeong-Ok, Managing Director of the Global Strategy Center; Kim Kyung-Hee, Executive Director International Relations and Kim Hyuk-dong, Executive Producer at KBS World. During conversations, Lee Jeong-Ok praised Sharjah and said: "I know that Sharjah is very known and appreciated for its culture and you can feel it from its people and when you are there. I am very much looking forward to see the cultural side by myself."Mrs. Lee stressed to keep this momentum and take it into a long-lasting mutual friendship and expand the cooperation between KBS and the emirate Sharjah. She said: "We have as KBS our special correspondent in Dubai. I will let them know to take care very well of Sharjah." Al Qassimi pointed out that with more than 40 per cent of the UAE?s manufacturing sector being based in Sharjah, any new economic initiatives and partnerships with powerful new economic players like South Korea are bound to help the emirate-based companies and investors. He introduced some of Sharjah?s 3,000 activities that take place annually and encouraged KBS to witness activities of the cultural capital of the Islamic World set to be launched in March 2014 till March 2015. Collaborating on further initiatives, Mrs. Lee mentioned the Global News Forum, which will be hosted by KBS in association with the Asian Pacific Broadcasting Union News Group (ABU). The managing director highlighted that the President of KBS is at the same time the President of the ABU and would be delighted to personally invite Al Qassimi, Samra and Sharjah Media Centre to the Forum to take place in Seoul on September 5, 2013. The Forum positions itself as an international conference for the region?s newsroom decision makers to examine issues regarding digital media evolution and the changing role of journalism. It expects to welcome global and regional broadcasters and key media organizations such as BBC World, Arirang Network (Korean Network), Al Jazeera to name few. On his side, Al Qassimi pointed out an important international initiative, the second International Government Communication Forum (IGCF), which attracts worldwide attention, hosting in 2013's edition renowned personalities like Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, Prime Minister of Turkey and Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations as its Guests of Honor. For 2014?s edition Sharjah Media Centre plans to invite renowned media personalities and the Management of KBS with special contributions to Sharjah?s Government Communication Network. Al Qassimi and Lee Jeong-Ok shared the importance of news broadcast - Korean culture and arts in UAE and Sharjah?s initiatives and cultural as well as artistic activities in Korea. The visit to KBS concluded with an interview to the Arabic airing radio channel ?KBS World Radio ? Beyond Radio?, that KBS hosts as part of its repertoire and which airs to 22 countries of the Arab region.
