Sharjah: A newborn girl was found abandoned on a busy road on Saturday night, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.
The girl, who was wrapped in a piece of material, was spotted at 11.15pm after a passer-by heard her crying. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
A team from Al Gharb Police Station moved to the scene and took the baby to Al Qasimi Hospital at around 11.30pm.
The official said the girl was estimated to be just a few hours old, she has dark skin and appears to be Asian. She was reported to be in good health.
Police have launched a hunt to track down the baby’s mother and arrest her.
The newborn will be handed over to the child protection committee in Sharjah in a couple of days.
The baby is the fifth to be abandoned in the emirate in the space of two months.
Meanwhile, Sharjah Police are probing the death of a baby boy who was found dumped in the industrial area on Friday night, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.
It is believed that the baby was born out of wedlock and other people had helped the mother to get rid of him and dump him on the road.
Sharjah Police’s operations room received a call on Friday at 10.25pm reporting the incident.
Police formed a team to investigate, an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
