Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has connected more than 200,000 new customers around the kingdom to the national grid during the seven months ending July 31 despite the lengthy coronavirus lockdown, the company said.

Anticipating operational and logistical issues that might ensue in a nationwide lockdown necessitated by the pandemic, the company redoubled its technical and operational capabilities and backed up its resources to ensure fast, reliable service to new customers.

New customers were in every sector the company covers: residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural, in every city, town, village and even the smallest, remotest communities anywhere in the kingdom’s vast geography.

The company’s Barq Service, which sees that power is reliably provided to new customers in just nine days, along with 14,000 km of new distribution cabling, were instrumental in helping the company achieve this feat.

The company had launched the Barq service to enable new customers to request new power connections from the comfort of their own homes or workplaces after the tie-in with the balady.com.sa portal.

Once an application has been filed, Balady will send the data in the building permit to the company, which will then commence to lay down the cabling to the new location, install meters as required, and switch the power on after it has received an alert that the building is ready to be used and a fee payment notice. – TradeArabia News Service
