BEIRUT (Zawya Dow Jones)--Saudi investor Mohammed Al Amoudi plans to set up a beetroot sugar factory in Ethiopia, Abha-based Al Watan daily reports Saturday, citing Amoudi's business manager Haile Askadi.

Abera Deressa, Ethiopia's Minister of State for Agriculture & Rural Development said his ministry will study Amoudi's application for a plot of land with an area of 250,000 hectares.

This will be the first project in Ethiopia for sugar extraction from crops other than sugar cane, he added.
