It is estimated that SR 5 billion would be needed to complete the implementation of the Ummul Qura University city project in Makkah. Dr. Naser Al Saleh, director of the university, said that several development projects are underway at the city. These projects are estimated to cost a total of SR 1.5 billion. These included SR 400 million university hospital and SR 700 million sports complex. There are several other projects, including the medical complex and students hostel. Nearly 80% of the university students are attending classes at the city.

According to Dr. Naser Al Saleh, all the students will be shifted to the new buildings in the university city located in Al Maabidiya in the beginning of the next academic year. The new buildings include those for the faculties of Shariah, Arabic language, engineering, medicine and education besides the new central library building. He also unveiled plans to set up a faculty for computer science and information systems. The faculty would consist of the departments of computer science, computer engineering and information systems.

There are also plans for new buildings for some faculties besides administrative buildings and residences for teachers, he said.
