DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--The United Arab Emirates Sunday halted crude oil exports from the Abu-Dhabi-based Ruwais and Das Island ports due to a sandstorm, shipping sources said.

"The two ports are closed now but they are trying to berth the vessels," an Abu Dhabi-based shipping source told Zawya Dow Jones. "We were told they could be closed for longer than 24 hours," another shipping source said.

Shipping sources said earlier that the U.A.E. halted exports from Jebel Dhanna port late on Friday and from its Jebel Ali port, the largest container terminal in the oil-rich Persian Gulf, on Sunday due to bad weather conditions.

The U.A.E. is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
