Royal Jet, the Abu Dhabi-based luxury aircraft charter company, is building a new executive aircraft terminal at an estimated cost of Dh150 million, the company announced yesterday.

The terminal generally called Fixed Based Operation (FBO) is scheduled for completion in 2007. Funding for the terminal is yet to be finalised.

"The new Royal Jet FBO will bring the luxury aircraft charter industry to Abu Dhabi and reinforces Abu Dhabi airport's position as an international hub. No other FBO in the world can offer the range, quality and level of luxury services that Royal Jet's new facilities have," said Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairman.

The FBO will help Royal Jet expand its services to include handling, fuelling, flight planning as well as aircraft maintenance and other services to all executive aircraft coming into Abu Dhabi.

Currently, aircraft maintenance for business aircraft is not offered in the region, with private charter aircraft having to go to Europe for maintenance and repairs.

The Royal Jet FBO will also offer conference rooms and offices available for rent.

Some 13 reputed international design consultants have submitted pre-qualification documents of which six have been chosen to submit design concepts. Four design concepts have been shortlisted and final selection is expected to be announced next month.

"Our goal for the new Royal Jet FBO is to be a premier private aviation facility and a gateway to the Middle East, to offer a private, opulent and confidential travel environment and to exceed all expectations, making us a leader worldwide," said Hanan Sayed Worrell, project director for the new FBO facilities.
