Abu Dhabi, April 28th, 2008(WAM)--As global food crisis continue to soar, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) of the UAE and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are discussing ways to mitigate the effects of food shortages on poor people"In view of the current challenges, there is a need for concerted global efforts to launch enhanced food production initiatives ", FAO and RCA officials said in a meeting here today. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in areas where they happened to be working together.

As he was received by RCA Board Chairman Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Kaabi, Kayan Akram, the FAO Resident Representative expressed FAO gratitude to the UAE for supporting its programmes.

"I'm honoured to be here and convey the gratitude of FAO Director General Jacques Diouf to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of RCA, for the unfailing support lent to the many FAO progarmme worldwide", said Akram.
