Dubai: Cruise ships, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth, have made overnight calls at Dubai Cruise Terminal, according to a statement on Sunday by Dubai Cruise Tourism.

Following a visit to Abu Dhabi, Queen Elizabeth arrived on April 18, carrying 1,888 passengers and 983 crew members. Passengers on Queen Elizabeth, the second largest ship in the Cunard Cruises fleet, were mainly British, American and Canadian.

Docked alongside the Queen Elizabeth on Saturday were C.S. Ocean Princess from Princess Cruises and C.S. Europa 2 from Hapag Lloyd.

Meanwhile, Queen Mary 2, Cunard’s biggest liner, arrived on April 20, carrying 2,459 passengers and 1,249 crew members.

“Having both of these vessels — Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2 — not only make calls at Mina Rashid but also stay overnight for the first time marks a significant step in our evolution as a cruise centre,” said Hamad Bin Mejren, executive director of business tourism at the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), in a statement.

The ships’ passengers will be able to tour Dubai during the calls. Sharaf Tours will handle their shore excursions and passenger turnaround.

Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth will have a turnaround of over 2,700 passengers and around 2,900 new passengers on their journey from Dubai.

Dubai Cruise Terminals had a turnaround of more than 13,000 cruise tourists on April 19.
