DOHA: Haj pilgrims across a network of Haj agencies in Qatar will come to benefit some 1,500 sets of special Ihram clothing thanks for the generosity of Qtel.
Qtel officials said the sponsorship is part of the company's long-established tradition of supporting pilgrims from Qatar travelling to Makkah for Haj with a number of special initiatives this year.
In addition, Qtel also made 500 sets of Ihram available directly from the Qtel offices. The aim of the project is to make sure that pilgrims have access to a full range of facilities when they undertake the trip to Makkah.
When undertaking the pilgrimage, Muslims don simple white garments (Ihram), to remove all signs of wealth and social distinction, to enable everyone to appear the same on their shared journey.
This work is undertaken under Qtel's community relations programme, "For Qatar, Hand in Hand," which provides direct support and sponsorship for a huge range of projects.
Aside from social support, Qtel also offers a wide range of communication services for people travelling to Saudi Arabia for Haj.
Qtel's SmartRoamer service, which provides the best roaming rates for travellers, is now available on every network in Saudi Arabia - Mobily, STC, Zain. With SmartRoamer, local calls in Saudi Arabia cost just QR1 per minute and SMS costing QR1 each. Calling home to Qatar costs just QR2 per minute.
