DOHA: Plugging Specialists International ASA, in association with their local partner Integrated Technical Services Co WLL, recently organised a seminar on the PSI "Smart Plug" technology which is a new technology and a pipeline isolation tool.
PSI is now the world leader in tetherless, through wall remote controlled pipeline pressure isolation services with over 60 competed Smart Plug projects worldwide as of mid 2004. Already four contracts are executed in the Middle East, of which one was completed for QatarGas, to their complete satisfaction and expectation, in May 2004.
The PSI Smart Plug is designed to isolate an onshore or offshore section of a pipeline whilst at operating pressure. This enables pipeline repair without bleeding down the whole pipeline. As a result, costs are reduced because of reduced down time while optimum result for the isolation project is ensured. In addition costs are saved because one does not have to bleed off the inventory, which is of course also very environmental friendly.
The seminar was inaugurated by Ulf Christiansen, Norwegian ambassador to UAE and Qatar.
CEO of Integrated Technical Services Co was also present during the seminar. Mazen Abu Naba'a, maintenance manager Qatargas and Ahmed Ibrahim Adma Opco, Abu Dhabi presented the technical paper by sharing their experience with PSI where as Morten Rasmussen and Geir Stokke of Plugging Specialist International conducted the seminar.
Sreenivas from Integrated Technical Services Co WLL was also present in the seminar. Delegates representing Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, Rasgas, Dolphin, Total, Maersk, etc, also attended the seminar.
