DOHA: Wide arrays of fresh flowers, temptingly displayed fruits and vegetables; potted plants and beautifully decked flowers in different hues will feature at the latest edition of the annual QAFCO Flower and Vegetable Show scheduled to open at Al Banush Football Grounds in Mesaieed on March 27, 2009.
More than 400 participants are expected to showcase nature's bounty at the Banush grounds this year.
Organised during the spring every year, the event attracts countless visitors. This time, the exhibits at the show are divided into five categories: Flower, Vegetables and Fruits; Pot Plants; Flower Arrangement; Fruit Carving, Vegetable Carving and Butter Carving; and Ice Carving.
The Flower category will witness the display of a wide range of fresh flowers. The displays will include roses, African marigolds, bougainvilleas and chrysanthemums. The category is further divided into 25 classes.
The Vegetables and Fruits category will showcase various vegetables and fruits displayed in collections like a collection of gourd varieties and a collection of salad vegetables, to name few.
The Pot Plants category, as the name suggests, will consist of potted plants.
Flower Arrangement is another major highlight of the show. Children, amateurs and professionals will all get a chance to display their skill and imagination in a flower arrangement competition.
Fruit Carving, Vegetable Carving and Butter Carving will display artistic creations made out of fruits, vegetables and butter. An Ice Carving competition will be among other attractive features of the show.
The show is sponsored and organised by Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO) under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah.
