The training programme was announced by Colonel Abdullah Fakhrou, Director of Protection Department at the Civil Defence Directorate-General, along with senior Naffco Qatar Co officials, at a news conference.
Fakhrou said: "The protection department at the Civil Defence Directorate-General has been implementing a strategy for improving the performance of technical staff working in the fields of fire fighting and public safety for a long time as the department is responsible for ensuring safety and security measures in all buildings, organizations and establishments in Qatar."
Improving the performance of engineering consultancies can play an important role in ensuring safety and security of buildings and for this reason, the General Directorate of Civil Defence had conducted many symposiums and conferences over the past years.
Fakhro said the course will focus on introducing an international code in fire protection and public safety.
The course also will cover training in international code related with fire pumps, proper designing methods in respect of fire extinguishing systems and introduction of ways to operate the pumps and their proper maintenance in addition to training on checking, operating and maintenance of fire extinguishers by water to keep them ready for use in emergencies.
Some staff members of the Civil Defence Department will be participating in the course and its standards will be evaluated by the department to find out the positive and negative aspects.
Hazim Abu Shamla, Director of Naffco Qatar Company, said the training course provides an opportunity to specialists working with consultancies, private fire-fighting and contracting companies.
The course is being conducted for the first time in Qatar.
The lecturer, William Bell Commen, is an American expert in the field and among those who have taken part in compiling the international codes in fire protection which are enforced in most of the countries in the world.
