DOHA - A member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has urged the National Health Authority (NHA) to conduct laboratory tests on a particular brand of cheese known in the local parlance as Al Jubna Al Rumi after reports suggested it contains a substance (formaline) used in washing dead bodies before burial.
Sheikha Al Jefairi, CMC's lone woman member, told The Peninsula yesterday that she has received complaints from some people about the cheese containing harmful substance (formaline). "I have written to NHA to conduct tests for verification," she said.
If what is being alleged is true, then it can have serious consequences on people's health, she said.
Al Jefairi pointed out that some internal roads in the Old Airport area which she represents in the CMC, do not have street lights. "I have raised the issue in the Council," she said.
The issue will first be discussed by the various committees (of the Council) and will then be taken up by the CMC for a debate. After this, recommendations will be forwarded to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA).
Meanwhile, Ahmed Al Sheib, another member of the CMC, has submitted a proposal that the issue of the rising prices be taken up for a threadbare discussion.
