DOHA: Qatar Airways has announced its biggest recruitment drive for Qatari students with 150 places on offer during for the current academic year.

The New Graduate Career Rotation Programme is being introduced by the national airline with up to 50 new jobs available for graduates. In addition, the carrier is offering 50 internships plus 50 scholarships for undergraduates.

All three programmes are administered by Qatar Airways' Nationalisation Department.

The announcement was made by Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker during a speech at the sixth annual Qatari Student Career Fair in London, organised by Qatar's Embassy.

Qatar Airways was among nine Qatari organisations present at the fair.

"As a young country, Qatar has made a significant impact internationally in different fields," he told students and dignitaries at a dinner ahead of the day-long fair. The event attracted over 150 students.

"Beginning this year, we are introducing an exciting new Graduate Career Rotation Programme, where students, upon graduation, spend 22 months as employees working on six assignments with different departments across the organisation, including four months in one of our selected international outstations."

The Nationalisation Department has Master's Degree placements for selected Qatari students at New Zealand's prestigious Massey University. The programme helps students enhance their skills working with a competitive airline that Qatar Airways is.

Qatargas was the 'Silver Sponsor' for the event.

The Qatargas delegation to the fair included Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Thani, Chief Operating Officer, Engineering and Ventures, Abdulaziz Al Mannai, Human Resources Manager, and representatives from the company's Human Resources and Learning and Development departments.

Abdulla Al Thani, in his opening speech, said: "We want you -- the new Qatari generation -- to participate in our success story and to continue pushing the boundaries as we pursue our dream of becoming the world's premier LNG Company."

Qatargas has a robust undergraduate scholarship programme that provides opportunities at leading international universities and colleges, in Qatar and abroad, in specialised disciplines which are critical for Qatargas' business success. Twenty-eight students are studying at various colleges in the UK as part of the Qatargas overseas scholarship programme. Qatargas representatives met them at the fair and discussed their progress.
