Doha: Grade 12 students from Qatar Academy received their High School Diplomas at a graduation ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel. The ceremony celebrated the students' successful completion of the two year International Baccalaureate Diploma programme of study.
The ceremony was conducted by Dr Hana Kanan, Director of Qatar Academy and Dr Abdulla Al Thani Vice President-Education, for Qatar Foundation. The guest speaker was Dixie McKay, Executive Director of the European Council for International Schools and the alumni speakers were Al Jazi Darwish and Ibrahim Al Derbasti, Qatar Academy graduates from 2006.
The Graduation Diplomas were conferred by Dr Hana Kanan and the evening also saw students honored as Michael Hitchman, Head of Senior School and Ron Smith, Assistant Head of Senior School and IB Coordinator, awarded prizes to the Valedictorian and Salutatorian and presented the Principal's Award and the CIS Award. Prizes were also presented to the top graduating students in English, Modern Languages, Arabic, Humanities, Sciences, Math, the Arts, Athletics and Service.
The evening was opened by the Qatar Academy choir who also offered a musical interlude during the ceremony.
The graduating students will receive their results from this external examination in early July and their IB Diplomas in late August.
Students from Qatar Academy's graduating class are going on to study at various prestigious institutions across the globe, attending universities in Doha, the Gulf region, UK, USA Australia and Canada.
