Two domestic companies will manufacture 200 turbo compressors required by the gas industry, said the head of the Self-Sufficiency Office of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).
Jafar Zakizadeh said these turbo compressors will be manufactured with the aim of indigenizing the technology.
"Oil Turbo Compressor Company will manufacture 100 turbo compressors and Iran Power Plant Projects Management Company (MAPNA) will produce the rest," he said.
He noted that Shahid Kolahdouz Industrial Complex has indigenized compressor production.
"Currently, a number of turbo compressors have been delivered," he said.
The official added that 90 percent and 40 percent of the production of compressors and turbines have been indigenized, respectively.
He hoped that in this phase, the technology of producing turbines will be indigenized by 90 percent.
Zakizadeh said NIGC will do its best to meet its requirements domestically.
He stated that currently, production of national turbine is underway.
"NIGC is now 90 percent self-sufficient in producing mechanical spare parts," he said.
The official noted that from the 380 items required by the gas supply sector, the production of 375 goods has been indigenized.
Zakizadeh said steel pipes are one of the goods produced domestically.
In May, Rostam Qasemi, former oil minister, said the country is moving toward self-sufficiency in meeting the oil industry's need for equipment.
"More than 80 percent of the equipments needed for the development of oil industry were imported from Western countries before the sanctions were imposed. But now we are able to meet our domestic needs and even export some of the goods," he said.
Qasemi noted that Western sanctions have failed to create problems in the development of Iran's oil and gas industries.
Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any evidence to substantiate their allegations.
Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Its civilian nuclear activities are constantly monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
