The Holy Quran booths set up at various locations this DSS as part of the Knowledge Surprises week is creating strong interest according to the organisers.

With hundreds of free CDs and literature on the religion being handed out and a competition for people of other faiths with super prizes organised worth Dh50,000, the booths are full of curious seeking more information on Islam.

The booths belonging to the Islamic Information Centre (previously known as Discover Islam) have been organised in collaboration with the Dubai Police and the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai.

The seven booths at Deira City Centre, Al Ghurair Center, Wafi Mall, Oasis Centre, BurJuman and at the Modhesh Fun City, all come with one message the message of Peace and are open from 5 to 10pm.

"Dubai being a multi-cultural, multi-religious city, it's important that people learn what Islam is about," said Reffat Al Raei, organising member of the Knowledge Surprises week and member of the Dubai Police. "The teachings of our religion come from the Holy Quran and the Hadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH). And often, with the recent happenings around the world, this religion of peace has been misinterpreted by those who don't know of or understand it, and misconstrued by many. It is to dispel such notions and educate the people, especially, the non-Muslims of the real Islam, which literally translates into "peace", that these CDs and other material are being given out free to the public during this week," he said.

"With DSS attracting a large number of visitors not only from around UAE, but also from around the world, the Dubai Police conceived this as a good opportunity to make available the teachings of Islam to a larger public," said Al Raei.
