Muscat - Following the calling off the seven-day-old strike by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees, the first flight from Islamabad is expected to land at Muscat International Airport today. "The strike has been called off after a settlement with the striking employees", said Shahzad Paracha, Country Manager, PIA Oman. Flight operations from Pakistan will be normal with first flight coming tomorrow (Wednesday), he told the Observer. A flight from Lahore landed in Multan on Tuesday, signalling the end of a deadlock between the government and the national carrier's employees protesting against its planned privatisation.
"We are expecting a PIA flight from Islamabad tomorrow (Wednesday), which is scheduled to depart at 11:30 pm and arrive in Muscat at 1:40 am. The same flight will then depart at 2:40 pm," confirmed Shahzad Paracha, Country Manager, PIA Oman. He said that a flight from Sialkot was expected today. "But due to a technical snag the flight was cancelled. This might have happened due to six days of non-operations of aircraft," Shahzad said. According to reports from Karachi, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of PIA asked the employees to resume flight operations across the country with immediate effect.
