He made these remarks during the opening day of a workshop entitled "Energy Education and Research: Addressing the need of Industry, organized by the Petroleum Institute with the participation of a large number of researchers and international experts in the field of energy.

He said that such workshops refine Emirati experience in this area and introduce them to the latest advancement in this field.

Dr. Ismail pointed out that Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi is keen on holding such scientific and practical workshops, expressing his delight on the institute in organizing this workshop, which confirms the confidence of international experts in the scientific stature.

In the same context, Badria A. Khalfan Senior Vice President for Administrative Support at the PI expressed Institute's keenness on holding such workshops that benefit teachers and students together.

Talking to Emirates News Agency, (WAM), Dr. Ebrahim Al Hajri, Director of the External Relations and Collaborations (ERC), Assistant Professor for Mechanical Engineering Department in PI said, the Petroleum Institute, (PI) is embarked on new avenues of collaboration between the world renowned scientists with the local researchers and scientists.

"We have collaborations with different countries, including USA, Norway, Austria, Japan and China and we are embarking on more such collaborations, hopefully with South Korea in near future, " he told.

In an exclusive interview on the eve of a workshop he said the two-day workshop is aimed at educating the public on the latest topics on energy, education and research, that addresses the need of the industry.

Dr. Ebrahim elaborated the importance of holding the workshop which was also addressed by academicians and professionals from American Universities and institutions respectively. Dr. Ismail Tag, Acting President and Provost, Petroleum Institute made the opening remarks.

The Petroleum Institute (PI), an engineering school financed and governed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), was founded in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries.

Emphasising on the role of the PI, Dr. Ebrahim said, "The institute is producing graduate who are well-rounded engineers in the oil, gas and energy sector in UAE, to the serve the country and the industry. Other objective is to support the economic growth through knowledge based economy that Abu Dhabi government is seeking by its 2030 plan through research and development which will not only benefit UAE but the world at large.

To question he said, PI is planning to host more workshops and conferences in the future to bring latest innovations and development in research field, which is considered a priority in the research agenda of Abu Dhabi government and ADNOC.

About the programs being offered by the institute, Dr. Ebrahim said, "We have five different engineering disciplines they are Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Petroleum and Petroleum Geo Science. In undergraduate program we have 1200 students and in Masters we have 200 students. 80 percent of the undergraduate students are nationals and 20 percent are expats."
